Compatibility in the destiny matrix is not a score out of ten. It is the same arithmetic run twice and then compared, and what it produces is a description of the pair — a third chart that belongs to neither person on their own.

What the calculator actually does

Three steps, all of them checkable by hand.

Builds both charts

Each date of birth is reduced to nine numbers using the method published on the home page. Nothing different happens because there are two people.

Adds the charts position by position

Character plus character, money line plus money line, and so on. Each sum is reduced back to the 1–22 range. That gives a third set of nine numbers.

Reads the third set as the relationship

Those numbers describe what the two of you produce together, not what either of you is like. This is the part people most often misread.

Because it is addition, compatibility is symmetric: swapping who goes first changes nothing. If a calculator gives you different results depending on the order, it is doing something other than what it says.

One consequence of the arithmetic is worth knowing, and we have not seen it mentioned anywhere else. Arcana 1, The Magician, cannot appear in a pair result. The smallest possible sum of two positions is 1 + 1 = 2, and no larger sum reduces back down to 1. So a relationship chart can land on any of the arcana from 2 to 22, but never on the first one. Read that as a property of the method rather than a statement about relationships: initiative is something each person brings, not something the addition can produce.

The three comparisons that carry the weight

The calculator compares all nine positions, but three of them do most of the work. These are the ones the reading above walks through.

Centre against centre

The core arcana of each person, side by side. Two cases, and neither is better.

Identical centres. You understand each other very quickly, often to the point of finishing sentences. You also share a blind spot, and nobody in the room is positioned to see it. Two people whose centre is 7, The Chariot, will both keep moving when the sensible thing is to stop, and neither will be the one who says so.

Different centres. Slower to understand each other, and more range between you. The friction is real, and it is also the mechanism by which each of you sees something you would not have seen alone. A 9, The Hermit, paired with a 3, The Empress, will argue about how much contact is normal, and both will be right about their own half of it.

Relationship line against relationship line

Position south-west in each chart describes what a person repeats in close relationships. Put the two side by side and you usually find the origin of the argument that keeps coming back in slightly different clothes.

This is the single most useful comparison on the page, and also the least comfortable, because the pattern is yours before it is theirs.

The relationship arcana

The sum of both centres, reduced. The method treats this as the theme of the relationship itself. It is the number at the top of your result, and it is worth reading in both its balanced and its unbalanced column on the arcana reference, because a relationship spends time in each.

Matching positions

When the same arcana appears in the same position in both charts, the reading says so. A match means that theme is doubled: it will be very easy for the two of you to recognise in each other and very hard to see from outside.

What a match tends to mean by position
Matching positionWhat tends to follow
CentreImmediate recognition, shared blind spot, and a tendency to reinforce rather than balance each other.
CharacterYou behave alike under pressure. Comfortable, until the situation needs the other behaviour.
AncestralSimilar family patterns. Often reads as "we come from the same world", including the difficult parts.
TalentThe same things come easily. Good for working together, less useful for covering each other's gaps.
Money lineThe same instincts about money. Either a quiet agreement or the same mistake made twice.
RelationshipsThe same relational pattern. This one intensifies rather than resolves: whatever each of you does, the other does back.

What this cannot tell you

A chart can tell you what you keep repeating. It cannot tell you whether to stay.

This needs saying plainly, because compatibility is the part of this subject where people are most likely to make a real decision on the basis of a number.

Two people born on the same days as you and your partner have an identical comparison. Their relationship is not your relationship. The arithmetic knows the dates and nothing else — not what either of you has done, not what you have both survived, not whether you are kind to each other on an ordinary Tuesday. It cannot see any of that, and it will still produce a confident looking result.

If you are weighing up whether to leave a relationship, or you are worried about how someone treats you, this page is not the right tool. Talk to someone who can actually see your situation. If there is any question of your safety, contact local support services rather than a calculator.

Using the result well

Read your own side first

Especially the relationship line. The result is most useful where it describes something you do, and least useful as evidence about them.

Read both columns of every arcana

Balanced and unbalanced. Taking the flattering column for yourself and the difficult one for them is the standard way to misuse this.

Treat matches as loud, not as good

A shared position amplifies. Amplification is helpful or unhelpful depending on what is being amplified.

Use it as a conversation, not a conclusion

The best outcome of this page is a question you ask each other, not a verdict one of you delivers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the compatibility calculator free?

Yes. No account, no limit on how many pairs you compare, and neither date is stored.

Does the order of the two dates matter?

No. The comparison is addition, so it is symmetric. Swapping the two people produces exactly the same result.

Can I compare charts for people who are not a couple?

Yes, and it is often more interesting. Parent and child, two colleagues, two friends. The method describes what a pair produces together, and that applies to any pair.

What does a high number of matching positions mean?

That several themes are doubled between you. It is a strong signal, but not a good or bad one. Doubling makes a theme louder, and whether that helps depends entirely on the theme.

Does a "bad" relationship arcana mean the relationship will fail?

No, and no arcana is bad. Each has a balanced and an unbalanced expression, and which one a relationship lives in is not determined by a date of birth. Nothing in this arithmetic can predict an outcome.
